Washington, D.C. - Today, Representative John Linder (R-GA) introduced H.R. 25, the "The FairTax Act of 2007." This bill was first introduced by Congressman Linder in 1998, and has become increasingly popular since that time. At the close of the 109th Congress the FairTax Act was the most popular tax reform bill in Congress with 59 supporters in the House, which far exceeded any other piece of tax reform legislation.

Gwinnet County, GA Gwinnett’s senior congressman will have a hand in deciding the Republican agenda when the U.S. House of Representatives go back into session next month. U.S. Rep. John Linder said he wants to help set a new agenda for the GOP, something that hasn’t happened since 1994’s Contract with America.
The new contract, he said, would include his FairTax proposal, which would abolish the Internal Revenue Service and replace the income tax code with a national sales tax. After this year’s sweep of Congress by Democrats, Linder said he doesn’t want to wait for the 2008 presidential candidate to be chosen before the party’s new direction is formed. www.gwinnettdailypost.com |

The midterm elections that gave control of Congress to the Democrats also brought widespread predictions of paralysis in Washington. But is divided government a recipe for inaction? Not necessarily. Divided government can produce good policy, especially on the budget, while one-party rule does not guarantee positive results. We learned these lessons firsthand while working inside the budget machinery of the White House under two different administrations. www.baltimoresun.com
